ALL ABOUT FEX DONOR-ADVISED FUNDS
A donor-advised fund allows you to make one contribution at a time convenient for you and then work with our staff any time thereafter to advise grants to various organizations throughout the year. We are able to open a donor-advised fund when you make an annual contribution of $10,000 or more, or make a larger contribution to support grantmaking over several years.
In addition to directly supporting one of our 16 member funds in their home areas, some donors are interested in funding organizations that are national, international or in areas not covered by the geographic boundaries of our member funds.
There are several advantages to opening a donor-advised fund:
1. Tax benefits. With one or a few annual contributions you will receive an immediate tax deduction for your gift at the time when you can benefit most. Grants can then be made anytime thereafter on a schedule that suits you.
2. Staff Consultation. Our experienced grantmaking staff will work closely with you in making grants from your fund. If there is an issue of special interest to you, our staff can help find the projects that address that issue, within the overall mission of the Funding Exchange.
3. Convenience. Trying to decide when and to whom to make a gift, and timing it for maximum tax advantage, can be a complicated burden. Finding out about groups that work on issues of concern to you can also be difficult. A donor-advised fund at the Funding Exchange can solve both of these problems.
4. Anonymity. Sometimes you may wish to support an organization while remaining anonymous. Doing that through a donor-advised fund offers the option of anonymity at any time, with some grants or with all of them.
5. Flexibility & Creativity. You may want to support groups you already know about, while also learning about new groups. Our staff can help you achieve your goals for supporting what you know about, and for learning about new cutting-edge progressive social change organizations.
