OUT Fund

At this time there are no current guidelines or deadlines for calendar year 2010.  As our new grantmaking initiative is developed announcements will be posted.

The OUT Fund was established to support radical organizing projects working to fight injustice, end oppression and build community among lesbians, gay men, Two Spirit,  bisexuals, trans, queer, questioning, and intersex people. In addition to the FEX funding priorities cited on our National Grant Programs page, the OUT Fund gives priority to organizing within the U.S. and its territories that:

  • addresses the politics of race, class, gender and sexuality as integral to systems of oppression.
  • develops long-lasting coalitions.
  • is developed within and led by marginalized communities, such as people of color, poor/low-income people, youth, elders, or disabled people, or is based in rural or other isolated areas.
  • addresses gender, sexuality, and the liberation of trans communities as an explicit component of their work.

The OUT Fund considers requests for general or project support.

The Alexander John Goodrum Memorial Grant

Alexander John Goodrum, an activist and leader in the transgender community, was a valued member of the OUT Fund panel. In this role, Alexander brought us a clearer understanding of the importance of including transgender issues in all of our grantmaking. He earned tremendous admiration from panel members and staff for his ability and desire to learn as well as educate and for incorporating broad political perspectives into a viable progressive vision.

As a prominent transgender black man, Alexander's leadership had a profound impact on queer people of color and on the community as a whole. He gave us the benefit of his knowledge, experience, passion, practicality and great humor, bringing all of who he was to his work, and inspiring others to do the same. The Alexander John Goodrum Memorial Grant will be awarded to organizations carrying on the spirit of Alexander's legacy-to live and work in freedom, for what is right.

NOTE:

  • FEX Activist-Advised Funds - and National Office Grantmaking Programs in general - support progressive social justice organizing work in the U.S., its territories and jurisdictions.

  • The last Grantmaking Docket was published in the fall of 2005, and the Docket grantmaking program was discontinued effective the end of the corresponding 2005 annual grants cycle.
