Media Justice Immediate Response Fund grants are intended for use in mobilizing and educating communities in situations where a small grant of up to $3,000 can have a significant impact. Community Media Collaboration (CMC) grants support projects that work within communities to change media regulations; increase community access to media; and/or promote corporate media accountability. Projects must include substantive collaborations between media advocacy groups and community activists organizing for economic equity, environmental or racial justice or other social justice goals.
Although media-making may be a part of a campaign strategy within the context of a proposal, the Community Media Collaboration Grants does not fund projects based solely on independent media-making. For independent media-making funding resources, please refer to our website for the Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media.
Application for the CMC grant is by invitation only. Community Media Collaboration Grants guidelines are issued in the spring of a given calendar year with a deadline generally following some 45 days later. We understand that there are organizations in the field performing work of which we may not be aware. If an organization has not been invited and can meet the stated criteria, they may submit a one page summary of your proposed project in request of an invitation. Please stay tuned to the MJF website for specific deadlines.
Applications may be submitted by email, fax or ground mail to the Funding Exchange’s National Office address. Applications submitted by email must be submitted as one document rather than as multiple attachments. Applications must be received by 5 P.M. on the posted date.
The MJF Toolkits may include materials in print, audio, video, digital, web-based or PowerPoint formats. The MJF is interested in creative and innovative approaches which will assist social justice organizers and community groups in understanding media policy and how it may be changed; and provide the information resources needed for community groups to take action.
