2006-7 Media Justice convening reports
The Media Justice Fund and FEX's member foundations organized media justice convenings in New Orleans (LA), Albuquerque (NM), Honolulu (HI), and Knoxville (TN). At these convenings, communities had dedicated space and time to raise the issue of media accountability and to strategize their own alternative plans for media justice. Media Justice Fund Evaluation Booklet: Strategic Grantmaking & Grassroots Organizing for Media Justice
Launched in 2002 with the support of the Ford Foundation, the Media
Justice Fund (MJF), a project of the Funding Exchange, advances the
social justice mission of the Funding Exchange. The Media Justice Fund
helps to connect media accountability, community-controlled media
infrastructure, and local and national telecommunications policy to a
broader agenda of social justice. As the Media Justice Fund celebrates
its third year, we are pleased to share this evaluation booklet,
“Strategic Grantmaking & Grassroots Organizing for Media Justice.”
This report examines the history and effectiveness of the Media Justice
Fund during its first two years of existence. The research undertaken
for this evaluation includes three components: an investigation of the
broad field of media justice, including a review of the few but
important articles written on the subject; interviews with organizers
and experts in the field, nationwide; and a series of organizational
profiles highlighting the work of some of the Media Justice Fund’s
grantees.
